Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Director of Diversity Equity and Inclusion:
Robert C. Johnson, JD
KVR.CPA reached out to Robert when it became clear we needed a servant leader in our firm in this area. Robert has worked in the prisons on a pro bono basis as a criminal defense attorney for over 25 years, defending individuals wrongfully accused of crimes. He also worked as an affirmative action officer for the Massachusetts Board of Community Colleges and the University of Massachusetts at Boston.
Robert stepped back from his law practice after a heart attack in 1992 and became an Africana Studies professor at University of Massachusetts at Boston. Robert has published extensively in the field of African American history. Most notable among his books are: Why Blacks Left America for Africa: Interviews with Black Expatriates, 1971-1999, and Nantucket’s People of Color: Essays on History, Politics, and Community. As a playwright, Robert has documented the African American experience with dramas such as Scag, Stop and Frisk, and Mama G. He graduated from Cornell Law School where he got his JD degree.
Robert continues to provide ongoing support to the firm in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
We have monthly round table discussions to talk about the issues and challenges facing the world today to make it a better, simpler, more humane society.
KVR.CPA is committed to creating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment. A diverse workforce allows us to better serve our clients and to be more innovative as a firm – and it is fun.
We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex sexual orientation, gender, identity national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other protected status. KVR.CPA takes steps to ensure that all employees feel safe, respected and valued. There is an in-house training program on different cultures, foods and customs. Opportunities are created purposefully for employees to learn from one another and to share their perspectives. We will actively recruit, hire, and promote individuals from underrepresented groups.

We work to create a workplace culture that is inclusive and respectful of all people and hold ourselves accountable for our progress and will regularly review and update this policy as necessary. At our firm, we created a workplace where everyone feels valued and respected. KVR.CPA has successfully supported U.S. Citizenship applications for seven individuals from the following countries: Thailand, Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, Indonesia, China, Bulgaria, and the Philippines.
Our staff members speak a variety of languages and represent diverse religions from around the world. One individual later left to start his own CPA firm under our continued guidance and mentorship. We are not only training individuals to be great accountants, but we are also training them to be successful entrepreneurs.
